These balls were originally
used in the 1960's by Swiss physiotherapists (hence
the name "Swiss ball") to help children
with cerebral palsy improve their physical skills,
including balance. Since then, physical therapists
have discovered many healthful uses for the balls.
In Europe and United States, Doctors have been using
and developing ball exercises for therapeutic fitness
since as early as 1973. A few exercises performed
by these Balls include:
* Static & dynamic strengthening of joint and spinal
mobility
* Cardiovascular fitness through low impact aerobics
* Facilitating postural correction at an unconscious
level Increasing proprioception and kinesthesia
* Midline orientation and dynamic trunk control
* Neuro-motor learning and coordination
* To develop anti gravity posture. (Tonic tone)
These balls in neurological conditions are very useful
1. To improve balance and equilibrium.
2. To control vestibular system and arousal.
3. For proper weight shifts
4. It improves dissociations and relaxes the muscles.
5. It is very useful for proprioceptive input. |

The Orchid PhysioTM Spiky Ball
is a step ahead of the Traditional Exercise Ball.
The Spiky ball enables the patient to perform the
same activities as that of the traditional Swiss
ball, but is more effective to relieve tension
and stimulate circulation. It is gentle to the
touch and the little bumps stimulate various pressure
points while providing a good grip. |

More than just a traditional therapy ball, the Orchid
PhysioTM roll is an ideal medium for enabling many
activities. Its unique peanut shape provides more
stability for rehab patients and for exercises requiring
greater stability. Unlike the Stability Ball, which
moves in all directions, the Physio-Roll moves
only sideways. In Therapy its shape offers
greater stability and treatment options for more
physically challenged patients. |
